Who we are.
Avalon Uniting Church is a community of people seeking to follow Jesus in all aspects of our lives and share the love of God with our community.
• We believe that God loves us, just as we are, but calls us to be the best that we can be. This makes our church a community of followers, seekers, and stumblers all held together by God's love. All our hope is in Jesus and the living word made manifest on earth through the Holy Spirit.
• Jesus is the way the truth and the life. He modelled humanity for us and made a way for us to know the Father.
•God speaks with people (Hebrews 1:1)
• Our best record of his speaking is the Bible (2 Timothy 3:15-17)
• The Bible is our authority for what God has to say (1 Thessalonians 2:5, Hebrews 4:12)
•The Holy Spirit empowers us to live out the Christian life just as it powered Jesus ministry. (Luke 4:16-18; Acts 1:4-8; Luke 24:49; 2 Corinthians 3:12-18).
What we understand
• The mystery and purpose of life is only understood in God 1 Corinthians 2:10-12)
• God created life to be good but we humans have a history of ruining it. (Genesis 1:26-31, and Genesis 3)
• In ruining life we find ourselves separated from God (Isaiah 59:2)
•God placed the life of his son Jesus on a cross to pay the price for our rebellion (Matthew 20:28, John 3:16)
• God’s love for us is so deep and fierce that he will do anything to reunite with us (Revelations 21:3)
Do we have a Christmas day and Easter Sunday service?
Yes! We have a Christmas day service and Easter Sunday service, even if they land on a Monday or a Saturday. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to gather on these significant dates.
Are you expected to tithe?
Can the church be hired?
Absolutely it can. We often have the space hired out for different local community groups including the local quilters and Pure Play.
Only if you feel called by The Holy Spirit to do so. We have no expectation from members and especially guests to tithe or give. We believe that if you are going to give then give cheerfully and without compulsion.
